Andy Warhol (1928–1987) was an American artist, filmmaker, and leading figure in the Pop Art movement. Born in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, he initially worked as a commercial illustrator before gaining fame in the 1960s for his bold, mass-produced images of consumer goods and celebrities, such as Campbell’s Soup Cans and Marilyn Monroe.
Warhol embraced celebrity culture, advertising, and mass production, often using silkscreen printing to create his iconic works. His studio, The Factory, became a hub for artists, musicians, and socialites.
Beyond painting, he explored film, photography and music, managing The Velvet Underground and producing experimental films like Chelsea Girls. Known for his enigmatic persona, Warhol blurred the line between art and commerce, famously stating, “In the future, everyone will be world-famous for 15 minutes.”
